Chain Stitch

The chain stitch is the foundation for many crochet stitch patterns and can also be used to attach different parts of more advanced stitches. Step 1 Make a foundation chain one chain more than the number of half double crochet stitches called for. Skip first 2 chain stitches (will count as the turning chain). Yarn over hook once, insert hook from front to back in the center of the third chain from the hook Pull the free yarn end to tighten the loop. Step 2 Bring the yarn over the crochet hook from back to front and hook it. Draw hooked yarn through the loop of the slip knot on the hook and up onto the working area of the crochet hook. You now have a chain stitch on your hook. Step 3 Again, hold the base of the slip knot and bring the yarn over the crochet hook from back to front. Slip Knot

The slip knot is the first step for ALL crochet projects. Step 1:  ·          Begin by making a slip knot on the crochet hook about 4-6 inches from the free end of the yarn. ·          You will first start by creating a loop with the yarn. ·          Be sure that the free end of the yarn is dangling behind your loop. Step 2: ·          Insert the crochet hook through the center of the loop and hook the free end. Step 3: ·          Pull this through and up onto the working area of the crochet hook.
